Art Spring Festival
The Annual Tucker County Art Spring Festival was founded in 2011 when gallery owners, artists and musicians of the county came together with a vision: to connect and promote its rich and varied art communities. What started as an idea to share and support local art has now blossomed into a festival each Memorial Day weekend. The Art Spring Festival gives residents and visitors a glance into the variety of art present in the community.
If you’re in town for the weekend or you’re driving through, this is a must-see event, full of activities the whole family can enjoy! The festival often includes fine art and craft demonstrations, open studio tours, gallery exhibits and outdoor paintings. In the mood to hear some tunes? You’re in luck! Street musicians are playing at numerous outdoor locations, as well as special bookings at popular venues like the Purple Fiddle and Mountain State Brew Pub. There’s also a community theatre radio show performance held in the historic 1902 Cottrill’s Opera House and a traditional square dance.
Plus, what’s a festival without tasty food and drinks, and exploring the nature that surrounds you? There’s plenty of artisan foods and drinks at local restaurants, including an Appalachian farm-to-table tapas and craft cocktail tasting. Plus, a convenient farmer’s market to pick up all of your seasonal fruits and vegetables!
For outdoor fun, individuals can participate in nature photography and poet walks in Canaan Valley, where you can plan to spot scenic views and possibly some wildlife, such as birds, deer, rabbits, and more! When it comes to kidding the kiddos entertained, there’s hours of fun with kids crafting, window painting, hair decorations, a dance recital and a student mural project!
Although the main activities take place in Thomas and Davis, guests are encouraged to continue exploring Canaan Valley and the surrounding areas while they’re in town.
A silent auction of local art will also take place at the festival, which benefits art education in Tucker County schools and the restoration of Cottrill’s Opera House (planned to return as an arts center and community hub of Tucker County).
The 2018 festival dates are May 25 through 27. Want to learn more about the Annual Art Spring Festival? Click here for more information and mark the date on your calendars–you don’t want to miss out on this fun-filled weekend!
